Removes separate `Command` key (use `Meta` instead).
Adds an event flag to automatically remap `Command` <-> `Control` (cannot be set alongside `Control` or `Meta`).
This makes the files ended in ".json" be treated as Godot resources.
This solves two problems:
* Avoid extensions to implement their own handling, which results in conflicts (all must use this one).
* Allow code to still work opening it as a file (since it will not be imported).
The `__ARM_ARCH_7A__` and `__ARM_ARCH_7S__` are not enough, since they
do not cover e.g. `__ARM_ARCH_8A__` in 32 bit mode, so instead of trying
to cover any possible ARM version that can work in 32 bit mode, we
can replace it with the `__arm__` macro which is defined for arm32 only
(arm64 uses `__aarch64__`).
"less" should be used for quantity, rather than "lesser".
Existing scripts that use `or_lesser` in `_get_property_list()`
will need to be updated to account for this change.
EditorExportPlugin adds a set of callbacks to allow customizing scenes, resources or subresources in all files exported:
* Can take scene files, resource files and subresources in all of them.
* Uses a cache for the converted files if nothing changes, so this work only happens if a file is modified.
* Uses hashing to differentiate export configuration caches.
* Removed the previous conversion code to binary, as this one uses existing stuff.
This API is useful in several scenarios:
* Needed by the "server" export platform to get rid of textures, meshes, audio, etc.
* Needed by text to binary converters.
* Needed by eventual optimizations such as shader precompiling on export, mesh merging and optimization, etc.
This is a draft, feedback is very welcome.
- Use different syntax for object printing to avoid confusion with arrays.
- Print null as `<null>` to avoid confusion with a string `"null"`.
- Display `<empty>` in editor resource pickers to avoid confusion
with array-based properties.
Also fix:
- Geometry3D::get_closest_distance_between_segments() returning
incorrect values.
- Test for Geometry3D::get_closest_distance_between_segments() testing for
an incorrect value.
These methods exist since the dawn of (open source) Godot and have hardly
been updated over time, so they barely work and I'm fairly sure nobody is
using them. (See #46505 for details.)
While some of the functionality they aimed to provide might be useful for
optimization work and introspection, this should likely be redesigned from
scratch with a cleaner and more modern interface (e.g. exposed via the
Performance singleton, or ResourceLoader, and a better API overall).
allows non-const T* to be taken from const Ref<T> directly
instead of using hacky workarounds such as copying it to
another Ref
this fixes methods with const Ref<T>& arguments not being
able to access non-const methods on contained T
In extension_api.json we want to expose properties that are meant to
access a class attribute from script (i.e. `Node2D.position`).
However property system is also used in Godot to declare attributes
accessible from the node editor:
- property with '/' in their name
- property array with NIL type that represents an array
_has_property_default_value is a required virtual
for ScriptExtension but it was not bound, and could
therefore not be implemented
this made it impossible to implement a ScriptExtension
that runs
This adds support for benchmarking engine startup (and editor startup if used).
The goal is to use this in the benchmarking server to track improvements and changes to engine, editor, importer and scene loading startup times.
The new default window size is tuned to:
- Have a 16:9 aspect ratio,
- Have both dimensions divisible by 8 to better play along with
video recording,
- Be displayable correctly in windowed mode on a 1366×768 display
(tested on Windows 10 with default settings).
This breaks compatibility with projects that didn't change the
window size from the default value (or that kept one of the values
to its default).
This method never did anything in Godot since 3.0, since its code
was commented out. The last time the method had an implementation
was in Godot 2.1.x.
This was a regression from 4469144891
The callback should be called, not only be called when the refcount
reaches 0. For example, the C# callback needs to know when the
refcount reaches 1, in order to swap to a weak GC handle.
Adds a FramebufferCache singletion that operates the same way as UniformSetCache.
Allows creating framebuffers on the fly (and keep them cached if re-requested) such as:
```C++
RID fb = FramebufferCache::get_singleton()->get_cache(texture1,texture2);
```
This is not enabled by default in the core version for performance reasons,
as Vector/CowData are used in critical code paths where not zero'ing memory
which is going to be set later on can be important.
But for bindings / the scripting API, we make zero the new items by default
(which already happened for built types like Vector3, etc., but not for
trivial types like int, float).

The function tried to rearrange properties but that lead to problems with duplication or deleted properties. Implemented the logic that that function did inside the get_property_list both for tool scripts and non-tool scripts.
- Add `positive_only` property hint to disallow using negative presets.
These values are clamped in several places in the editor already,
so this avoids displaying presets that don't work.
- Move the Zero preset at the end of the positive list to match
the custom property editor. It's also used less often than Linear,
Ease In and Ease Out.
- Rename presets to be consistent between the easing property editor
and custom property editor.
- Remove unused `inout` hint which was redundant since it was already
the default.
This can be used to restart a project with specific command line arguments
applied. This can work in tandem with `OS.get_cmdline_args()` to restart
with the same command line arguments as used to originally run the project.
Example use cases:
- Restart to apply an user setting change that requires a restart to work.
- Restart with a Godot command line argument to change the video driver,
audio driver, etc.
Implements the standard Unix double dash (--) commandline argument:
* Arguments after a double dash (--) are ignored by Godot and stored for the user.
* User can access them via `OS.get_cmdline_user_args()`
Example:
`godot.exe scene_to_run.tscn --fullscreen -- --start-level 2`
This was removed in #63481, and we confirmed that it's better like this,
but we add back the possibility to strip CR as an option, to optionally
restore the previous behavior.
For performance this is done directly in `String::parse_utf8`.
Also fixes Android `FileAccess::get_line()` as this one _should_ strip CR.
Supersedes #63717.
This quits the project when an animation is done playing in the
given AnimationPlayer, but only in Movie Maker mode.
When this happens, a message is printed with the absolute path of the
AnimationPlayer node that caused the engine to quit.
This can be used to create videos that stop at a specified time
without having to write any script.
A report is now also printed to the console when the video is done
recording (as long as the engine was exited properly).
This report is unfortunately not always visible in the editor's
Output panel, as it's printed too late.
A method was also added to get the path to the output file from the
scripting API.
- Accelerate common path used to check the storage scope for a given path
- Update the logic for the `get_as_text()` method - previous logic loads the content of a text file one byte at a time
- RPC configurations are now dictionaries.
- Script.get_rpc_methods renamed to Script.get_rpc_config.
- Node.rpc[_id] and Callable.rpc now return an Error.
- Refactor MultiplayerAPI to allow extension.
- New MultiplayerAPI.rpc method with Array argument (for scripts).
- Move the default MultiplayerAPI implementation to a module.
On #43310, class reference was automatically updated from source,
causing xml documentation to disagree with parameter naming
description on Plane.intersects_segment().
Weirdly, it also changed the parameter for Plane.is_point_over()
from point to plane, when only the first has sense (and it is
defined on math.Plane as "const Vector3 &p_point"). Manual
mistake?
* Update begin/end to from/to on Plane.intersects_segment(...)
docs description to match source
* Update Plane bindings to use points instread of plane for
is_point_over(...)
* Change Plane.is_point_over(plane) to Plane.is_point_over(point)
AND its description on docs
Fixesgodotengine/godot-docs#5976
Implement built-in classes Vector4, Vector4i and Projection.
* Two versions of Vector4 (float and integer).
* A Projection class, which is a 4x4 matrix specialized in projection types.
These types have been requested for a long time, but given they were very corner case they were not added before.
Because in Godot 4, reimplementing parts of the rendering engine is now possible, access to these types (heavily used by the rendering code) becomes a necessity.
**Q**: Why Projection and not Matrix4?
**A**: Godot does not use Matrix2, Matrix3, Matrix4x3, etc. naming convention because, within the engine, these types always have a *purpose*. As such, Godot names them: Transform2D, Transform3D or Basis. In this case, this 4x4 matrix is _always_ used as a _Projection_, hence the naming.
This PR implements a worked thread pool. It uses a fixed amount of threads in a pool and allows scheduling tasks
that can be run on threads (and then waited for). It satisfies the following use cases:
* HTML5 thread count is fixed (and similar restrictions are known in consoles) so we need to reuse threads.
* Thread spawning is slow in general, so reusing threads is faster anyway.
* This implementation supports recursive waiting for tasks, making it less prone to deadlocks if threads from the pool also run tasks.
After this is approved and merged, subsequent PRs will be needed to replace the ThreadWorkPool usage by this class.
This PR is a continuation of #50381 (which was implemented exactly a year ago!)
* Add a visual interface to select which classes should not be built into Godot (well, they are built if something else uses them, but if not used the optimizer will remove them out).
* Add a detection system to scan the project and figure out the actual classes used.
* Added the ability for SCons to load build profiles.
Obligatory Screen:
A simple test with a couple of nodes in the scene resulted in a 25% reduction for the final binary size
TODO:
* Script languages need to implement used class detection (left for another PR).
* Options to disable servers or server functionalities (like 2D or 3D physics, navigation, etc). Are missing, that should also greatly aid in reducing binary size.
* Options to disable some modules would be desired.
* More options to disable drivers (OpenGL, Vulkan, etc) would be desired.
In general this PR is a starting point for more contributors to improve and enhance this functionality.
Read/write ops for this implementation are done through the java layer via jni, and so for good performance, it's key to avoid numerous repeated small read/write ops due the jni overhead.
The alternative is to allocate a (conversatively-sized) large buffer to reduce the number of read/write ops over the jni boundary.
MultiplayerSynchronizers can now be configured to limit their visibility
to a subset of the connected peers, if the synchronized node was spawned
by a MultiplayerSpawner (either automatically or via custom spawn) the
given node will also be despawned remotely.
The replication system doesn't have the logic to handle subspawn
directly, but it is possible to handle them appropriately by manually
updating the visibility of the parent before changing the one of the
nested spawns via the "update_visibility" function.
The visibility of each MultiplayerSynchronizer can be controlled by
adding or remove filters via "[add|remove]_visibility_filter(callable)".
To further optimize the network code, visibility filters can be configured
to be automatically updated during idle or physics frame, or set to always
require manual update (via the "update_visibility" function).
This was done by refactoring directory and file access handling for the Android platform so that any general filesystem access type go through the Android layer.
This allows us to validate whether the access is unrestricted, or whether it falls under scoped storage and thus act appropriately.
For this to work safely (user not call queue_free or something in the expression), a const call mode was added to Object and Variant (and optionally Script).
This mode ensures only const functions can be called, making it safe to use from the editor.

When a type is shared (i.e. passed by reference) it doesn't need to be
called in a setter chain (e.g. `a.b.c = 0`) since it will be updated in
place.
This commit adds an instruction that jumps when the value is shared so
it can be used to skip those cases and avoid redundant calls of setters.
It also solves issues when assigning to sub-properties of read-only
properties.
This PR implements:
* A new hint: PROPERTY_HINT_NODE_TYPE for variant type OBJECT, which can take specific node types as hint string.
* The editor will show it as a node path, but will set it as a pointer to a node from the current scene if you select a path.
* When scene is saved, the node path is saved, then restored as a pointer.
NOTE: This is a proof of concept and this approach will most likely not work. The reason if that, if the node referenced is deleted, then when trying to edit this the node will become invalid.
Potential workarounds: Since this uses the Variant API, it should obtain the pointer from the Variant object ID. Yet, this would either only really work in GDScript or it would need to be implemented with workarounds in every language.
Alternative ways to make this work: Nodes could export an additional property with a node path (like for which_node, it could be which_node_path).
Another alternative: Path editing could happen as a hidden metadata (ignoring the pointer).
* Ensures thread safety when resources are destroyed.
* Simplified API by always forcing `ResourceCache::get_ref`, which needs less hacks and is fully thread safe.
* Removed RWLock for resources because its not possible to use for the new logic. Should not be a problem.
Supersedes #57533
* Allows running the game in "movie writer" mode.
* It ensures entirely stable framerate, so your run can be saved stable and with proper sound (which is impossible if your CPU/GPU can't sustain doing this in real-time).
* If disabling vsync, it can save movies faster than the game is run, but if you want to control the interaction it can get difficult.
* Implements a simple, default MJPEG writer.
This new features has two main use cases, which have high demand:
* Saving game videos in high quality and ensuring the frame rate is *completely* stable, always.
* Using Godot as a tool to make movies and animations (which is ideal if you want interaction, or creating them procedurally. No other software is as good for this).
**Note**: This feature **IS NOT** for capturing real-time footage. Use something like OBS, SimpleScreenRecorder or FRAPS to achieve that, as they do a much better job at intercepting the compositor than Godot can probably do using Vulkan or OpenGL natively. If your game runs near real-time when capturing, you can still use this feature but it will play no sound (sound will be saved directly).
Usage:
$ godot --write-movie movie.avi [scene_file.tscn]
Missing:
* Options for configuring video writing via GLOBAL_DEF
* UI Menu for launching with this mode from the editor.
* Add to list of command line options.
* Add a feature tag to override configurations when movie writing (fantastic for saving videos with highest quality settings).
Clean up and do fixes to hash functions and newly introduced murmur3 hashes in #61934
* Clean up usage of murmur3
* Fixed usages of binary murmur3 on floats (this is invalid)
* Changed DJB2 to use xor (which seems to be better)
This is done to prevent reducing texture quality when it doesn't save
much video memory, especially for pixel art.
The size threshold can be adjusted in the project settings.
To get the previous behavior where textures detected to be used in 3D
had their compression mode always set to VRAM, set this to the lowest value
(16).
I had an error while importing my GLB file from 32-bit precision
floating point,
I guess this was forgotten while implementing 64-bit precision floating
point.
I'm not sure if there's any other left to do though.
Initial TAA support based on the implementation in Spartan Engine.
Motion vectors are correctly generated for camera and mesh movement, but there is no support for other things like particles or skeleton deformations.
* Replace case-by-case extraction with PNAME & GNAME
* Fix group handling when group hint begins with property name
* Exclude properties that are PROPERTY_USAGE_NO_EDITOR
* Extract missing ADD_ARRAY*, ADD_SUBGROUP* macros
Arrays can be set as read-only and thus cannot be modified. Assigning
the array will create an editable copy.
Similar to is already done to read-only dictionaries.
* Add ability to set them read only.
* If read-only, it can't be modified.
This is added in order to optionally make const dictionaries (and eventually arrays) properly read-only in GDScript.
* Map is unnecessary and inefficient in almost every case.
* Replaced by the new HashMap.
* Renamed Map to RBMap and Set to RBSet for cases that still make sense
(order matters) but use is discouraged.
There were very few cases where replacing by HashMap was undesired because
keeping the key order was intended.
I tried to keep those (as RBMap) as much as possible, but might have missed
some. Review appreciated!
Adds a new, cleaned up, HashMap implementation.
* Uses Robin Hood Hashing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_table#Robin_Hood_hashing).
* Keeps elements in a double linked list for simpler, ordered, iteration.
* Allows keeping iterators for later use in removal (Unlike Map<>, it does not do much
for performance vs keeping the key, but helps replace old code).
* Uses a more modern C++ iterator API, deprecates the old one.
* Supports custom allocator (in case there is a wish to use a paged one).
This class aims to unify all the associative template usage and replace it by this one:
* Map<> (whereas key order does not matter, which is 99% of cases)
* HashMap<>
* OrderedHashMap<>
* OAHashMap<>
Allow AStar2D/AStar3D zero point weight.
Limit was set to 1 which seemed like an arbitrary value as lower values down to zero can be useful for common gameplay navigation elements like teleports.
* Changed to use the same stages as extensions.
* Makes the initialization more coherent, helping solve problems due to lack of stages.
* Makes it easier to port between module and extension.
* removed the DRIVER initialization level (no longer needed).
Adds the is_process_running function to the native OS class and exposes it to script.
This is implemented on Windows and Unix platforms. A stub is provided for other platforms that do not support this function.
Documentation is updated to reflect new API function.
Implemented by request of @neikeq to advance in the GDExtension version of Mono.
* If a Resource type is missing upon load, it will be remembered together with its data (Unless manually overriden).
* If a Node type is missing upon load, it will be also be remembered together with its data (unless deleted).
This feature makes working with GDExtension much easier, as it ensures that missing types no longer cause data loss.
These typedefs don't save much typing compared to the full `Ref<Resource>`
and `Ref<RefCounted>`, yet they sometimes introduce confusion among
new contributors.
Didn't commit all the changes where it wants to initialize a struct
with `{}`. Should be reviewed in a separate PR.
Option `IgnoreArrays` enabled for now to be conservative, can be
disabled to see if it proposes more useful changes.
Also fixed manually a handful of other missing initializations / moved
some from constructors.
Implements https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/issues/4096
* Nodes can be marked unique to the scene in the editor (or via code).
* Unique nodes can be accessed via the **%** prefix at any point in the path. From that point in the path (depending on whether the scene of the path is), the unique node will be fetched.
* Implementation is very optimal, as these nodes are cached.
Windows export process:
Limit size of executable with embedded PCK to 4 GB.
Use "rcedit" before embedding PCK.
Capture and process "rcedit" errors.
Windows, Linux:
Add support for PCK loading from executable "pck" section.
Type emit_signal exposed method return type
set UndoRedo add_do_method and add_undo_method exposed return void
Set TreeItem::_call_recursive_bind returns void
Set _rpc_bind and _rpc_id_bind returns void in Node
Set _call_group and _call_group_flags method returns void in SceneTree
Set godot-cpp-test CI flag to false
* Resource that allows saving textures embedded in scenes or standalone.
* Supports only formats that are portable: Lossy, Lossles or BasisUniversal
This is something I wanted to add for a long time. I made it now because @fire
requires it for importing GLTF2 files with embedded textures, but also this
will allow saving Godot scenes as standalone binary files that will run
in all platforms (because textures will load everywhere).
This is ideal when you want to distribute individual standalone assets online
in games that can be built from Godot scenes.
The UDP method is now called `is_socket_connected` to limit confusion
with the actual host connection status which doesn't make sense in UDP.
The TCP method is completly dropped, use get_status instead.
The only one left is the WebSocketPeer one, which should be fine as is
for now.
* Ability to create script languages from GDExtension
* Some additions to gdnative_extension.h to make this happen
* Moved the GDExtension binder to core
This now allows creating scripting languages from GDExtension, with the same ease as if it was a module. It replaces the old PluginScript from Godot 3.x.
Warning: GodotCPP will need to be updated to support this (it may be a bit of work as ScriptInstance needs to be created over there again).
We might want to re-add something like this if/when we find a good use case
for it and do the effort to categorize all objects in the API properly.
Until then, it's better to remove that boilerplate since it's not needed.
Closes#18711.
* API kept the same (Although functions could be renamed to set_metadata/get_metadata in a later PR), so not much should change.
* Metadata now exposed as individual properties.
* Properties are editable in inspector (unless metadata name begins with _) under the metadata/ namespace.
* Added the ability to Add/Remove metadata properties to the inspector.
This is a functionality that was requested very often, that makes metadata work a bit more similar to custom properties in Blender.
This makes the following error message less likely to be printed
when performing many concurrent HTTP requests:
Condition ' resolving == IP::RESOLVER_INVALID_ID ' is true. returned: ERR_BUG
Adds DEV_ASSERTS that will halt at runtime if the BVH is misused with invalid IDs, and adds ERR_FAIL macros to prevent calling with invalid IDs.
Any such misuse is a bug in the physics, but this should flag any errors quickly.
* Based on the work done for Variant in the past.
* Added `ClassDB::bind_static_method`
* Cleaned up ClassDB::bind_method to use variadic templates.
This adds support for having static methods in Object derived classes.
Note that this does not make it work yet in GDScript or Mono and, while it works for GDExtension, GodotCPP needs to be updated.
- Print all StringNames, not just the top 100.
- Print statistics at the end of the list of StringNames,
with unreferenced and rarely referenced StringNames.
- List the CLI argument in `--help` and shell completion.
* Allows creating a GDExtension based 3D Physics Server (for Bullet, PhysX, etc. support)
* Some changes on native struct binding for PhysicsServer
This allows a 3D Physics server created entirely from GDExtension. Once it works, the idea is to port the 2D one to it.
`DirAccess *` needs to be deleted manually, and this is often forgotten
especially when doing early returns with `ERR_FAIL_COND`.
`DirAccessRef` is deleted automatically when it goes out of scope.

* Previous "virtual" classes (which can't be instantiated) are not corretly named "abstract".
* Added a new "virtual" category for classes, they can't be instantiated from the editor, but can be inherited from script and extensions.
* Converted a large amount of classes from "abstract" to "virtual" where it makes sense.
Most classes that make sense have been converted. Missing:
* Physics servers
* VideoStream
* Script* classes.
which will go in a separate PR due to the complexity involved.
It has been disabled in `master` since one year (#45852) and our plan
is for Bullet, and possibly other thirdparty physics engines, to be
implemented via GDExtension so that they can be selected by the users
who need them.
* Very old macros from the time Godot was created.
* Limited arguments to 5 (then later changed to 8) in many places.
* They were replaced by C++11 Variadic Templates.
* Renamed methods that take argument pointers to have a "p" suffix. This was used in some places and not in others, so made it standard.
* Also added a dereference check for Variant*. Helped catch a couple of bugs.
This method was meant only as a convenience for editor code
to allow using a step of 0 to disable snapping.
It was exposed by mistake when refactoring GlobalScope.
A previous PR had changed the array operator to give unbounded access. This could cause crashes where old code depended on this previous safe behaviour.
This PR adds DEV_ASSERT macros for out of bound access to DEV builds, allowing us to quickly identify bugs in calling code, without affecting performance in release or release_debug editor builds.
enh: Add FLAG_NONE to SaverFlags in ResourceSaver to fix api inconsistency
fix: flags parameter of ResourceSaver::save is now uint32_t to allow flag composition in scripts
* Changed syntax usage for RD::Uniform to create faster with a single RID
* Converted render pass setup to use this in clustered renderer to test.
This is the first step into creating a proper uniform set cache system to simplify large parts of the codebase.
Add localizable string (Dictionary<Lang Code, String>) property editor and property hint.
Add localized "app name" property to the project settings.
Add localized permission and copyright properties to the macOS and iOS export settings.
Remove some duplicated ("app name") and deprecated ("info") macOS and iOS export properties.
This ensures the project setting never disappears from the editor,
even if the current physics engine is GodotPhysics.
This also adds documentation for the Smooth Trimesh Collision
project setting.
Previously, only one line per 100 files was printed.
This also refactors the print statement to use Godot methods and
make it more informative overall.
This method can be used to get the CPU model name.
It can be used in conjunction with
`RenderingServer.get_video_adapter_name()` and
`RenderingServer.get_video_adapter_vendor()` for annotating benchmarks
and automatic graphics quality configuration.
As a cryptographically secure random generator.
Internally it uses mbedTLS CTR-DRBG implementation which gets re-seeded
with entropy from OS::get_entropy when needed.
CryptoCore now additionally depends on `ctr_drbg.c` and `entropy.c`
thirdparty mbedtls files.
Implemented via `BCryptGenRandom` on Windows.
Implemented via `getentropy` syscall when available.
Implemented via `/dev/urandom` device as a fallback.
The `/dev/urandom` fallback can be disabled via the `NO_URANDOM` build
flag.
Note: The HTML5 version relies on emscripten file system urandom
device which itself uses the Crypto API when available or the plain
old not crypto-safe `Math.random()` otherwise.
Restore get_entropy.
Using codespell 2.2-dev from current git.
Added `misc/scripts/codespell.sh` to make it easier to run it once in a
while and update the skip and ignore lists.
* Explain where it should be used, with examples.
* Clarify that it should _not_ be used everywhere, only where needed.
* Supersedes #57720
This PR is the result of the discussion that happened in a contractor meeting, and it attempts to clarify the intended use for this macro for other contributors.
As a personal note, It is my view that other approaches to using SNAME (like having a global or per class table of string names) are mere overengineering without any real benefit (performance remains the same, and usage of stringnames becomes more cumbersome. Additionally, there was not any significant amount of errors in name mismatching as a result of using strings since Godot was open sourced).
This was changed in #56943 to allow adding new importers from plugins that
take precedence over built-in ones, but this should be opt-in, not the default
behavior.
Fixes#57730.
Forcing draw during debug break is now handled by ServersDebugger, and
only happens when the proper message is sent from the EditorDebugger
("servers:draw").
In a similar way, briging the window in foreground is now also handled
by ServersDebugger upon receiving "servers:foreground" which is sent by
the EditorDebugger when resuming from a break ("continue").
* Vector2i and Vector3i mul/div by a float results in Vector2 and Vector3 respectively.
* Create specializations to allow proper bindings.
This fixes#44408 and supersedes #44441 and keeps the same rule of int <op> float returnig float, like with scalars.
Now correctly erases old instances.
The code will likely need overhaul anyway to be usable.
It doesn't apply to editor runs, there's a bunch of inconsistencies on
how to clients are handled, and I don't really understand why multiple
instances are created for a single client/server.
Now uses two interfaces so it can be overridden in the future, and
core no longer depends on Node.
The interfaces are implements in scene/multiplayer.
Replaces root_node with root_path.
Remove all Node references from MultiplayerAPI.
Some were declared as structs (public by default) and others as classes
(private by default) but in practice all these math types exposed as
Variants are all 100% public.
Initial implementation of the MultiplayerReplicationInterface and its
default implementation (SceneReplicationInterface).
New MultiplayerSpawner node helps dealing with instantiation of scenes
on remote peers (e.g. clients).
It supports both custom spawns via a `_spawn_custom` virtual function,
and optional auto-spawn of known scenes via a TypedArray<PackedScenes>
property.
New MultiplayerSynchornizer helps synchronizing states between the local
and remote peers, supports both sync and spawn properties and is
configured via a `SceneReplicationConfig` resource.
It can also sync via path (i.e. without being spawned by a
MultiplayerSpawner if both peers has it in tree, but will not send the
spawn state in that case, only the sync one.
First, we should not insert into cache if the hostname resolution has
failed (as it might be a temporary internet issue), second, the async
resolver should also properly insert into cache.
Took the chance to remove some duplicate code with critical section in
it at the cost of little performance when calling the blocking
resolve_hostname function.
This commit adds a condition to VariantCaster that casts Variants of type OBJECT to any type T, if T is derived from Object.
This change enables a fair bit of code cleanup. First, the Variant implicit cast operators for Node and Control can be removed, which allows for some invalid includes to be removed. Second, helper methods in Tree whose sole purpose was to cast arguments to TreeItem * are no longer necessary.
A few small changes also had to be made to other files, due to the changes cascading down all the includes.
A common source of errors is to call functions (such as round()) expecting them to work in place, but them actually being designed only to return the processed value. Not using the return value in this case in indicative of a bug, and can be flagged as a warning by using the [[nodiscard]] attribute.
On the only platform where PVRTC is supported (iOS),
ETC2 generally supersedes PVRTC in every possible way. The increased
memory usage is not really a problem thanks to modern iOS' devices
processing power being higher than its Android counterparts.
- Uses all accumulated movements when calculating velocity
- Discards old accumulated movements
- Sets last mouse velocity to zero when there is no movement
The same is done for `Vector` (and thus `Packed*Array`).
`begin` and `end` can now take any value and will be clamped to
`[-size(), size()]`. Negative values are a shorthand for indexing the array
from the last element upward.
`end` is given a default `INT_MAX` value (which will be clamped to `size()`)
so that the `end` parameter can be omitted to go from `begin` to the max size
of the array.
This makes `slice` works similarly to numpy's and JavaScript's.

Each file in Godot has had multiple contributors who co-authored it over the
years, and the information of who was the original person to create that file
is not very relevant, especially when used so inconsistently.
`git blame` is a much better way to know who initially authored or later
modified a given chunk of code, and most IDEs now have good integration to
show this information.
When a request was issued to a server that returned "content-length" header
whose value was greater than that of an "int" we ran into overflow
problems. The fix for this was rather simple by increasing the data
type to `int64_t`
Auto-instantiation is used by the create dialog, but should also be
used by the editor inspector.
This refactors object properties auto-instantiation into a dedicated
method to be reused throughout editor (and possibly scripting).
All arrays are now prefixed with `PACKED_` to distinguish them from
GDScript's generic typed arrays.
`RAW_ARRAY` is now `PACKED_BYTE_ARRAY` (RawArray was the name of
PackedByteArray back in Godot 2.x).
Keep applying the windows entropy patch (UWP support).
Remove no longer needed padlock patch.
Update thirdparty README to reflect changes, and new source inclusion
criteria.
Always build with the GUI subsystem.
Redirect stdout and stderr output to the parent process console.
Use CreateProcessW for blocking `execute` calls with piped stdout and stderr (prevent console windows for popping up when used with the GUI subsystem build, and have more consistent behavior with `create_process`).
Add `open_console` argument to the `execute` and `create_process` to open a new console window.
Remove `interface/editor/hide_console_window` editor setting.
Remove `Toggle System Console` menu option.
Remove `set_console_visible` and `is_console_visible` functions.
There is no filtering on the Nintendo Switch Pro controller thumbstick, so there will frequently be events with very slight change. These are turned into "not pressed" events, which cancel "pressed" events from keys and buttons.
This change filters out up to 5% jitter, but it might be worth revisiting whether "not pressed" events should cancel "pressed" events.
* Adds `indent(str)` to `String`:
* Indent the (multiline) string with the given indentation.
* This method is added in order to keep the translated XML correctly
indented.
* Moves the loading of tool/doc translation into
`editor/editor_translation.{h,cpp}`.
* This will be used from both `EditorSettings` and the doc tool from
`main`.
* Makes use of doc translation when generating XML class references, and
setup the translation locale based on `-l LOCALE` CLI parameter.
The XML class reference won't be translated if `-l LOCALE` parameter is
not given, or when it's `-l en`.
We prefer to prevent using chained assignment (`T a = b = c = T();`) as this
can lead to confusing code and subtle bugs.
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assignment_operator_(C%2B%2B), C++
allows any arbitrary return type, so this is standard compliant.
This could be re-assessed if/when we have an actual need for a behavior more
akin to that of the C++ STL, for now this PR simply changes a handful of
cases which were inconsistent with the rest of the codebase (`void` return
type was already the most common case prior to this commit).
Split instance and physical device selection function and move device selection to window creation, to reject devices without present capability.
Add device preferred type check in discrete > integrated > virtual > cpu > other order.
Add device list printout.
Add command line argument to override device selection.
Note, the editor build requires the mbedtls module to be manually
enabled, as it is currently needed as a ResourceUID dependency.
This will need to be addressed in a separate PR.
Doing a multiplication to reduce the amount of tests was causing
precision which lead to 2D raycast detecting false positive contacts
in some cases with convex polygons.
This makes it possible to change the branch of the documentation that
URLs are pointing to without having to modify all class reference
files.
In the XML class reference, the `$DOCS_URL` placeholder should be used,
and will be replaced automatically in the editor and when generating
the RST class reference.
The documentation branch string is set in `version.py`.

This PR is necessary for #54886 to be implemented properly.
Some platforms (*cough* web *cough*) have hard limits on the number of
threads that can be spawned.
Currently, ThreadPoolWork (mostly used in rendering/physics servers)
will spawn as many threads as CPUs available causing exception on
machines with high CPU count.
This commit adds a new overridable method to OS that returns the default
thread pool size (still the CPU count by default), and overrides it for
the JavaScript platform so it always allocate only one thread.
We can likely improve the whole ThreadPoolWork in the future to always
allocate X amount of threads, and assign jobs to them on the fly, but
that will require some more architectural changes.
- Rename OpenGL to GLES3 in the source code per community feedback.
- The renderer is still exposed as "OpenGL 3" to the user.
- Hide renderer selection dropdown until OpenGL support is more mature.
- The renderer can still be changed in the Project Settings or using
the `--rendering-driver opengl` command line argument.
- Remove commented out exporter code.
- Remove some OpenGL/DisplayServer-related debugging prints.
First implementation with Linux display manager.
- Add single-threaded mode for EditorResourcePreview (needed for OpenGL).

Sets `AlignOperands` to `DontAlign`.
`clang-format` developers seem to mostly care about space-based indentation and
every other version of clang-format breaks the bad mismatch of tabs and spaces
that it seems to use for operand alignment. So it's better without, so that it
respects our two-tabs `ContinuationIndentWidth`.
* Made the Basis euler orders indexed via enum.
* Node3D has a new rotation_order property to choose Euler rotation order.
* Node3D has also a rotation_mode property to choose between Euler, Quaternion and Basis
Exposing these modes as well as the order makes Godot a lot friendlier for animators, which can choose the best way to interpolate rotations.
The new *Basis* mode makes the (exposed) transform property obsolete, so it was removed (can still be accessed by code of course).
Roughly based on https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/issues/3375 (used format is slightly different).
* Implement bitwidth based animation compression (see animation.h for format).
* Can compress imported animations up to 10 times.
* Compression format opens the door to streaming.
* Works transparently (happens all inside animation.h)
Whenever we change the name (or remove) generated cpp files with the `.gen.cpp`
extension, users run into build issues when switching between branches (i.e.
switching before and after the name change/removal). This is because we glob
`*.cpp` so if a now-obsolete file from a previous build is present, we'll
include it too, potentially leading to bugs or compilation failure (due to
missing headers or invalid code).
So globbing patterns in `add_source_files` will now skip files ending with
`.gen.cpp`, which should instead be passed explicitly where they're used.
Extension class properties that have been registered with
ClassDB(`GDNativeInterface::classdb_register_extension_class_property`)
were not fetched previously. (Only directly providing a property
list using `GDNativeExtensionClassCreationInfo::get_property_list_func`
would work.) This especially caused problems with the C++
bindings since they exclusively rely on ClassDB to register properties.
Allow using String or StringName types as operand in any position of the
`in` operator, which is more convenient in scripting when interacting
with data in the engine (such as a Node name).
`core` and `scene` shouldn't depend on `editor`, so they can't query this style
setting in `get_argument_options`. But we can handle it after the fact in
GDScript's completion code.
Also cleans up a couple extra unused invalid includes in `core`.
Adding the copy constructor is needed to solve a `-Wdeprecated-copy` warning
from GCC and Clang, which is raised when upgrading doctest from 2.4.4 to 2.4.6.
The GDVIRTUAL_NATIVE_PTR did not declare the correct GDNativeConstPtr
template, resulting in "void*" being used as it's type info in both the
documentation and the extension API dump.
* Fixed LODs for shadow meshes.
* Added a merging step before simplification. This helps with tesselated
meshes that were previously left untouched. The angle difference at
wich edges ar considered "hard" can be tweaked as an import setting.
* LODs will now start with the highest decimation possible and keep
doubling (approximately) the number of triangles from there. This
makes sure that very low triangle counts are included when possible.
* Given more weight to normal preservation.
* Modified MeshOptimizer to report distance-based error instead of
including attributes in the reported metrics.
* Added attribute transference between the original mesh and the
various LODs. Right now only normals are taken into account,
but it could be expanded to other attributes in the future.
`#pragma once` was used in a few files, yet we settled on using
traditional include guards instead.
The PooledList template comment was also moved to allow editors
such as Visual Studio Code to display the comment when hovering
PooledList.
`app.h` was renamed to `app_uwp.h` to be less generic for the
include guard.
Calling the constructor alone is not enough if the class to be
instantiated is not a base class.
This commit adds two functions, one for retrieving the the extension
class reference, the other to construct an instance using the
constructor and the extension class reference.
This can be used as a shorthand for:
if OS.is_stdout_verbose():
print("...")
Unlike `print_debug()`, this works in release builds too and can
be toggled off in debug builds.
The `Engine.set_editor_hint()` setter method is no longer exposed
to scripting, which makes the property effectively read-only from
an user perspective.
This method extracts the 2 or 3-letter language code from `OS::get_locale()`,
making it easier for users to identify the "main" language code for users
that might have different OS locales due to different OS or region, but
should be matched to the same translation (e.g. "generic" Spanish).
Fixes#40703.
On latest (11.1 as of this commit) GCC, the following warning is
continuously issued during build:
warning: placement new constructing an object of type
'SafeNumeric<unsigned int>' and size '4' in a region of type
'uint32_t*' {aka 'unsigned int*'} and size '0' [-Wplacement-new=]
This happens because on 98ceb60eb4 the new operator override used
was dropped and replaced with standard placement new. GCC sees the
subtraction from the pointer and complains as it thinks that the
SafeNumeric is placed outside an allocation, not knowing that the
address requested is already inside one.
After suggestions, the false positive is silenced, with no other
changes.
Removes _networking_ prefix from some methods and members, now that multiplayer has been largely moved out of Node and SceneTree and is seperated into its own set of classes.
Move multiplayer classes to "core/multiplayer" subdir.
Move the RPCConfig and enums (TransferMode, RPCMode) to a separate
file (multiplayer.h), and bind them to the global namespace.
Move the RPC handling code to its own class (RPCManager).
Renames "get_rpc_sender_id" to "get_remote_sender_id".
There are two ways a class can be added to ClassDB:
- `A`: When an instance of the class is created for the first time. When
this happends the class is not registered/exposed to scripts.
- `B`: When calling `GDREGISTER_CLASS(ClassName)` or similar. When this
happens the class is registered/exposed to scripts.
ClassDB has an API type property to differentiate between the core
and editor APIs. Up until now the API type was determined whenever
the class is added to ClassDB (either `A` or `B`).
The problem comes when a class is instantiated (`A`) before
being registered (`B`).
If at this point the current defined API is not the same as when the
class is later registered, this will result in a mismatch between
`--editor` and non-editor apps.
This is specially bad for C# as it makes the editor player abort.
This was happening with `EditorPaths` which, while being registered
during the editor API classes registrations, it was also being
instantiated earlier when running the editor or the project manager,
via a call to `EditorPaths::create()`. This regression was introduced
in 1074017f04.
This commit fixes this simply by re-assigning the class API type when
the class is registered (`B`).
This is correct because API type describes registered/exposed classes.
It shouldn't cause any regressions as the API type should not be
accessed of classes that are not (or not yet) registered/exposed.
Code locations for reference:
- Method to add a class to ClassDB: `ClassDB::_add_class2`
- Code that adds classes to ClassDB post first initialization (`A`):
`memnew` macros -> `Object::_postinitialize` ->
`Object::initialize_class` -> `ClassDB::_add_class2`.
- Code adds class to ClassDB and registers/exposes it to scripts:
`GDREGISTER_CLASS` macros -> `ClassDB::register_class<T>` ->
`Object::initialize_class` -> `ClassDB::_add_class2`.
The previous error message incorrectly suggested that any Basis could be fixed by calling get_rotation_quation() or orthonormalize(). This PR points out that only a valid rotation Basis can be fixed in this way.
This commit completely removes the RPC_MODE_MASTER ("master" keyword),
and renames the RPC_MODE_PUPPET to RPC_MODE_AUTHORITY ("auth" keyword).
This commit also renames the "Node.[get|set]_network_master" methods to
"Node.[get|set]_network_authority".
This commit also renames the RPC_MODE_REMOTE constant to RPC_MODE_ANY.
RPC_MODE_MASTER in Godot 3.x meant that a given RPC would be callable by
any puppet peer on the master, while RPC_MODE_PUPPET meant that it would
be callable by the master on any puppet.
Beside proving to be very confusing to the user (referring to where it
could be called instead of who can call it) the RPC_MODE_MASTER is quite
useless. It is almost the same as RPC_MODE_REMOTE (anyone can call) with
the exception that the network master cannot. While this could be useful
to check in some case, in such a function you would anyway need to check
in code who is the caller via get_rpc_sender_id(), so adding the check
there for those rare cases does not warrants a dedicated mode.
Segment collision results could be different depending on the direction
when they exactly touch (order of the points in segments). This was due
to the way parallelism was checked, using different logic based on
positive or negative sign of cross products.
Now the results are the same whatever the direction, without changing
the current design, which is that parallel or colinear segments are
not considered colinear.
Fixes inconsistencies with raycasts exactly on edges of convex shapes
depending on the direction.
* Exposed functions in Engine to register and unregister singletons.
* Added the concept of user singletons, which can be removed (the system ones can't).
Adds ability to add error return documetation to the binder and class reference.
Usage example:
```C++
void MyClass::_bind_method() {
[..]
BIND_METHOD_ERR_RETURN_DOC("load", ERR_FILE_CANT_OPEN, ERR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED);
}
```
One function of ConfigFile was changed as example.
* Allows calling into native extensions directly with a pointer
* Makes it easier to implement some APIs more efficiently
* Appears with a "*" in the documentation for the argument.
* Implementing the pointer handling is entirely up to the implementation, although the extension API provides some hint.
* AudioStream has been implemented as an example, allowing to create NativeExtension based AudioStreams.
* `_gui_input`, `_input`, `_unhandled_input` and `_unhandled_key_input` are now regular C++ virutal functions.
* Everything else converted to GDVIRTUAL
* BIND_VMETHOD is gone, always use the new syntax from now on.
Creating `_gui_input` method and using the binder to register events will no longer work, simply override the virtual function now.
The constructor was expecting a mutable pointer, while the passed pointer was immutable ( returns a const pointer), so the compilation was failing when iterating a constant .
* New syntax is type safe.
* New syntax allows for type safe virtuals in native extensions.
* New syntax permits extremely fast calling.
Note: Everything was replaced where possible except for `_gui_input` `_input` and `_unhandled_input`.
These will require API rework on a separate PR as they work different than the rest of the functions.
Added a new method flag METHOD_FLAG_OBJECT_CORE, used internally. Allows to not dump the core virtuals like `_notification` to the json API, since each language will implement those as it is best fits.
* Extensions are now scanned and loaded on demand.
* Extensions found are cached into a file that is used to load them (which is also exported).
* Editor will ask to restart when an extension requires core functionality.
* Editor will attempt to load extensions always before importing or loading scenes. This ensures extensions can register the relevant types.
Capsule height and radius setters can modify each other, rather than
using clamping, to avoid cases where values are not set correctly when
loading a scene (depending on the order of properties).
Inspector undo/redo:
Added the possibility to link properties together in the editor, so
they can be undone together, for cases where a property can modify
another one.
Gizmo undo/redo:
Capsule handles pass both radius and height values so they can be undone
together.
Like the spawn/despawn feature, it can be completely overridden with 2
custom callables.
The callables will be called with the list of tracked objects.
In SERVER mode, objects are automatically tracked, while in CUSTOM mode
you can manually track them via `track`/`untrack` (but that's optional).
The default sync only happens from server to client, with batch updates,
over unreliable channel (but with custom ordering).
The default sync will warn you, if your state representation gets too
big.
Move the former "spawnables" functions to a dedicated
MultiplayerReplicator class.
Support custom overrides in replicator.
Spawn/despawn messages can now contain a state.
The state can be automatically encoded/decoded by passing the desired
object properties to `spawnable_config`.
You can use script properties to optimize the state representation.
2 Callables can be also specified to completely override the default
implementation for sending and receiving the spawn/despawn event.
(9 bytes overhead, and there's room for improvement here).
When using a custom implementation `spawn` and `despawn` can be called
with any Object, `send_spawn`/`send_despawn` can receive any Variant as
a state, and the path is not required.
Two new functions, `spawn` and `despawn`, convey the implementation
independent method for requesting a spawn/despawn of an Object, while
`send_spawn` and `send_despawn` represent the more low-level send event
for a Variant to be used by the custom implementations.
Fixes undefined behavior, and fixes the logic for negative powers of ten.
Fixes#51764.
Adds tests to validate the changes and prevent regressions.
Adds docs for `String.num`.
- Add MethodBind call (besides ptrcall), since vararg methods don't work
with ptrcall.
- Fix argument name in register constant function to the way it
actually is used in the engine.
- Change the integer constant type to GDNativeInt to keep it consistent.
* Make Undo/Redo menu items disabled when clicking it does nothing.
* Context menu of `TextEdit`
* Context menu of `LineEdit`
* Editor's Scene menu
* Script editor's Edit menu and context menu (for Script and Text)
* Make editor undo/redo log messages translatable.
* Mark `UndoRedo`'s `has_{un,re}do()` methods as `const`.
* Expose `TextEdit`'s `has_{un,re}do()` to scripts since `{un,re}do()` are already available.
This is done by providing API access to app specific directories which don't have any limitations and allows us to bump the target sdk version to 30.
In addition, we're also bumping the min sdk version to 19 as version 18 is no longer supported by Google Play Services and only account of 0.3% of Android devices.
Fixes behavior of these methods:
`InputMap::event_get_action_status`
`InputEvent*::action_match`
Previously when `p_pressed` was `nullptr`, `p_strength` would be set to
`0.0f` regardless of event strength. This affected `InputEventAction` events
processed by `Input.parse_input_event` for example.

This PR and commit adds a new IK system for 3D with the Skeleton3D node
that adds several new IK solvers, as well as additional changes and functionality
for making bone manipulation in Godot easier.
This work was sponsored by GSoC 2020 and TwistedTwigleg
Full list of changes:
* Adds a SkeletonModification3D resource
* This resource is the base where all IK code is written and executed
* Adds a SkeletonModificationStack3D resource
* This node oversees the execution of the modifications and acts as a bridge of sorts for the modifications to the Skeleton3D node
* Adds SkeletonModification3D resources for LookAt, CCDIK, FABRIK, Jiggle, and TwoBoneIK
* Each modification is in it's own file
* Several changes to Skeletons, listed below:
* Added local_pose_override, which acts just like global_pose_override but keeps bone-child relationships intract
* So if you move a bone using local_pose_override, all of the bones that are children will also be moved. This is different than global_pose_override, which only affects the individual bone
* Internally bones keep track of their children. This removes the need of a processing list, makes it possible to update just a few select bones at a time, and makes it easier to traverse down the bone chain
* Additional functions added for converting from world transform to global poses, global poses to local poses, and all the same changes but backwards (local to global, global to world). This makes it much easier to work with bone transforms without needing to think too much about how to convert them.
* New signal added, bone_pose_changed, that can be used to tell if a specific bone changed its transform. Needed for BoneAttachment3D
* Added functions for getting the forward position of a bone
* BoneAttachment3D node refactored heavily
* BoneAttachment3D node is now completely standalone in its functionality.
* This makes the code easier and less interconnected, as well as allowing them to function properly without being direct children of Skeleton3D nodes
* BoneAttachment3D now can be set either using the index or the bone name.
* BoneAttachment3D nodes can now set the bone transform instead of just following it. This is disabled by default for compatibility
* BoneAttachment3D now shows a warning when not configured correctly
* Added rotate_to_align function in Basis
* Added class reference documentation for all changes
It uses the (`const T &&... p_args`) forward reference, to avoid copying the
memory in case it's an rvalue, or pass a reference in case it's an lvalue.
This is an example:
```c++
PagedAllocator<btShapeBox> box_allocator;
btShapeBox* box = box_allocator.alloc( btVector3(1.0, 1.0, 1.0) );
```
Input buffering is implicitly used by event accumulation, but this commit makes it more generic so it can be enabled for other uses.
For desktop OSs it's currently not feasible given main and UI threads are the same).
- API has been simplified: all events now go through `parse_input_event()`. Whether they are accumulated or not depends on the `use_accumulated_input` flag.
- Event accumulation is now thread-safe (it was not needed so far, but it prepares the ground for the following changes).
- Touch drag events now support accumulation.
With this commit the macro `memnew_placement` uses the standard memory
placement syntax: `new (mem) TheClass()`, and removes the outdated and
not used syntax:
```
_ALWAYS_INLINE_ void *operator new(size_t p_size, void *p_pointer, size_t check, const char *p_description) {
```
Thanks to this change, the function `memnew_placement` call is compatible with
any class, and can also initialize classes with non-empty constructor:
```
// This is valid, like before.
memnew_placement(mem, Variant);
// This works too:
memnew_placement(mem, Variant(123));
```
This makes it clearer that this property is only about physics FPS,
not rendering FPS.
The `physics_fps` project setting was also renamed to
`physics_ticks_per_second` for consistency.
`PackedScene`s can be configured to be spawnable via a new
`MultiplayerAPI.spawnable_config` method.
They can be configured either to be spawned automatically when coming
from the server or to always require verification.
Another method, `MultiplayerAPI.send_spawn` lets you request a spawn on
the remote peers.
When a peer receive a spawn request:
- If it comes from the server and the scene is configured as
`SPAWN_MODE_SERVER`:
- Spawn the scene (instantiate it, add it to tree).
- Emit signal `network_spawn`.
- Else:
- Emit signal `network_spawn_request`.
In a similar way, `despawn`s are handled automatically in
`SPAWN_MODE_SERVER`.
In `SPAWN_MODE_SERVER`, when a new client connects it will also receive,
from the server all the spawned (and not yet despawned) instances.
The Transform::xform and xform_inv are made safe for Planes when using non-uniform scaling.
Optimization of calling sites to prevent loss of performance from the changes to xform(Plane).
These methods were broken by 22419082d9
5 years ago and nobody complained, so maybe they're not so useful...
But at least this should restore them to a working state.
- Fix library loading and initialization.
- Add extra methods/parameters in the interface needed by extenstions.
- Add Variant destructors and functions for extracting values and
creating Variants from values.
This sends the Godot object instance back to the extension so they can
keep a pointer for function calls.
Incidentally fix argument order on instance bindings callback for free()
- Fix type size information.
- Validate sizes at compile time (for the current build configuration
only).
- Normalize type names.
- Add extra information.
Adds a few more complex edge cases which are supported.
Also adds some documentation, simplifies the code a bit and forbids using
double quotes as a delimiter.
This seems to be a pretty old bug, older then originally reported (at
least under certain circumstances).
The IP singleton uses a resolve queue so developers can queue hostnames
for resolution in a separate while keeping the main thread unlocked
(address-resolution OS functions are blocking, and could block for a long
time in case of network disruption).
In most places though, the address resolution function was called with
the mutex locked, causing other functions (querying status, queueing
another hostname, ecc) to block until that resolution ended.
This commit ensures that all calls to OS address resolution are done
with the mutex unlocked.

Variants like dictionaries and arrays can have cyclic references, which
caused `encode_variant` to run an infinite recursion.
Instead of keeping a stack and looking for cyclic references which would
make serialization slower, this commit adds a `MAX_RECURSION_DEPTH`
constant to Variant, and have `encode_variant` keep track of the current
recursion depth, bailing when it's too high since this likely means a
cyclic reference has been encountered.
Used by ENetMultiplayerPeer and WebSocketServer to generate network IDs,
and exposed to the user for p2p networks (e.g. WebRTCMultiplayerPeer)
and custom MultiplayerPeer implementations.
This should fix various issues where retrieving enum values from
scripting languages would result in corrupted values (where 32 bits
were valid, and the other 32 random data).

* Most resource types now have unique identifiers.
* Applies to text, binary and imported resources.
* File formats reference both by text and UID (when available). UID always has priority.
* Resource UIDs are 64 bits for better compatibility with the engine.
* Can be represented and used textually, example `uuid://dapwmgsmnl28u`.
* A special binary cache file is used and exported, containing the mappings.
Example of how it looks:
```GDScript
[gd_scene load_steps=2 format=3 uid="uid://dw86wq31afig2"]
[ext_resource type="PackedScene" uid="uid://bt36ojelx8q6c" path="res://subscene.scn" id="1_t56hs"]
```
GDScript, shaders and other special resource files can't currently provide UIDs, but this should be doable with special keywords on the files.
This will be reserved for future PRs.
* Clean-up of node_3d_editor_plugin.{h,cpp}: removed unused code, fixed some bugs.
* Moved node_3d_editor_gizmos.{h,cpp} to editor/plugins.
* Added support for multiple gizmos per node. This means custom gizmos will no longer override the built-in ones and that multiple gizmos can be used in more complex nodes.
* Added support for handle IDs. When adding handles to a gizmo, an ID can be specified for each one, making it easier to work with gizmos that have a variable number of handles.
* Added support for subgizmos, selectable elements that can be transformed without needing a node of their own. By overriding _subgizmo_intersect_frustum() and/or _subgizmo_intersect_ray() gizmos can define which subgizmos should be selected on a region or click selection. Subgizmo transformations are applied using get/set/commit virtual methods, similar to how handles work.
The various get_meta, set_meta, has_meta, get_meta_list, remove_meta
functions now uses StringName, allowing further optimizations via the
SNAME macro when used from C++ (this PR does not change the various
usage though).
* Friendlier with version control.
* Generates pseudo unique IDs, to minimize conflicts when merging, but still
user readable (so, not UUID).
* Eventually will also allow to have more precisely named sub-resources in
imported files.
* This will allow better reloading on changes (including resources already
loaded) as well as better keeping track of changes on the DCC.
* Keeps backward compatibility with the old formats.
* Binary and text format version incremented to mark breakage in forward
compatibility.
The `Math_INF` and `Math_NAN` defines were just aliases for those
constants, so we might as well use them directly.
Some portions of the code were already using `INFINITY` directly.
* Added explicit return type to the SNAME macro.
* Add some extra SNAME usages.
* Change some ClassDB methods to use const StringName & arguments.
* Cache the Window parent in Control because it's used in
is_layout_rtl(), which is called often.
* Only enable internal processing for viewports that need it.
* Change CanvasItem::group to be a StringName because it's only used as
that.
- Move the "sync" property for RPCs to RPCConfig.
- Unify GDScript annotations into a single one:
- `@rpc(master)` # default
- `@rpc(puppet)`
- `@rpc(any)` # former `@remote`
- Implement three additional `@rpc` options:
- The second parameter is the "sync" option (which also calls the
function locally when RPCing). One of "sync", "nosync".
- The third parameter is the transfer mode (reliable, unreliable,
ordered).
- The third parameter is the channel (unused for now).
* Added a new macro SNAME() that constructs and caches a local stringname.
* Subsequent usages use the cached version.
* Since these use a global static variable, a second refcounter of static usages need to be kept for cleanup time.
* Replaced all theme usages by this new macro.
* Replace all signal emission usages by this new macro.
* Replace all call_deferred usages by this new macro.
This is part of ongoing work to optimize GUI and the editor.
* This PR adds the ability to disable classes when building.
* For now it's only possible to do this via command like:
`scons disable_classes=RayCast2D,Area3D`
* Eventually, a proper UI will be implemented to create a build config file to do this at large scale, as well as detect what is used in the project.
